Indonesia lies on the equator, so it is in the tropics. The word tropic means “turning point”. The earth is tilted on its axis and rotates around the sun, so each year the sun appears to travel from north to south. On 22nd March the midday sun is directly overhead at places on the equator.
After that, it is overhead each day at places whose latituded are farther north, until by 21st June it is overhead at places on the tropic of Cancer. Then the reverse happens. On 22nd September the midday sun is again overhead at places on the equator. On 21st Deceber the midday sun reaches the tropic of Capricorn. Then it changes direction again and strts to move north.
