President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is set to swear in nine members of the Presidential Advisory Board (Wantimpres), as mandated by the Constitution.
“The deadline is Jan. 20, so on Jan. 19, members of the Wantimpres will have to be sworn in,” Cabinet Secretary Andi Widajanto said as quoted by kompas.com.
Andi declined to reveal, however, who would be on the advisory council.
- council – dewan
- mandated – diberi amanah
- constitution – undang-undang
- decline – menolak, menampik
- advisory council – dewan penasehat
“All I can say is that none of them are leaders of political parties,” Andi said.
Speculation is rife that Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri will be appointed to the council.
The 2006 law on the council stipulates that the president must form the Wantimpres at most three months after his or her inauguration.
State Secretary Pratikno earlier revealed that candidates would come from political parties and social organizations.
- rife – tersebar luas
- chairperson – ketua
- appointed – ditunjuk, ditetapkan
- stipulate – menetapkan
- inauguration – pelantikan
- state secretary – sekertaris negara
